Obituary for Marcia C Viglione

Marcia C Viglione, age 87, longtime Tustin resident, died early Wednesday morning, May 10, 2023, at Saint Joseph Hospital, Orange, California. Her husband John, and youngest son Jim were with her when she passed to be with her Lord, Jesus.

Marcia was born November 28, 1935, in Rome Township, Ohio, the daughter of George and Ida Mae (Callander) Creed. Growing up in Saybrook, Ohio, she was a 1953 graduate of Ashtabula High School. In 1954, she met her future husband, John Viglione, while working for United Airlines at LaGuardia Airport. He was a student at the Academy of Aeronautics, Queens, New York. Married June 7, 1958, she became the wife of an USMC officer and pilot, resulting in 11 relocations in 24 years. Along the way she became the mother of four children, at times raising them by herself while John served overseas. When her youngest, Jimmy, started kindergarten she joined the Cherry Point MCAS workforce as a civil service secretary. When the needs of the service moved them to northern Virginia she worked at the Pentagon in the same capacity. With her eldest finishing college and her youngest starting high school, the family moved back to Southern California where she studied to become a successful realtor, working with both North Hills and Coldwell Banker Realties. The California soil proved a good match for her green thumb, readily growing her beloved rose bushes and various vegetables. Marcia was an accomplished Bridge player, periodically hosting Bridge groups in her home while the kids were in school. Her love for singing found its first expression during her high school years singing in the high school choir, and later while singing for many years in the Aldersgate UMC choir. She also put her bookkeeping talents to work while active in the USMC Officers’ Wives League, serving as Treasurer. All her activities expressed her love for people through service and social interaction. Her greatest joy was her nine grandchildren, spending time with them or hearing about them. She was widely known for her kindness and loyalty as a true friend. While she didn’t talk much about her faith in her Lord Jesus, she lived His commandment to love one another.

Marcia is survived by her husband, John W. Viglione; her sisters Nancy Louden (husband Russ), and Judy Eager; her children, John (Pam) Viglione, Joanne V. Levesque (David), Jennifer Viglione, Jim (Cathy) Viglione; and her grandchildren Michael Viglione, Rachel Viglione, Sarah Viglione, Matthew Levesque, Emily Viglione, Elizabeth Levesque, Christopher Viglione, Dominic Viglione, and Sophie Viglione.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 19, 10:00 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Tustin, 1201 Irvine Blvd, with Pastor Timothy Ellington officiating. Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida, at a date TBD.
